Manufacturer of large format CNC cutting machines

Cutting soft and semi-rigid materials

Tangential knife, oscillating knife, V-cut and creasing wheel: the VSR's UTM module cuts vinyl, cardboard, foams, leather, rubber and display materials.

UTM module – VSR

One head, several ways to cut

Soft and semi-rigid materials are cut with a knife, using the UTM (Universal Tangential Module) of the VERSO VSR. Tools are changed automatically as the job requires:

  • Tangential knife: for materials cut without shearing (vinyl, banner, magnetic sheet, thin expanded PVC, thin corrugated polypropylene).
  • Oscillating knife: for materials that need shearing (leather, carpet, cardboard, foams, polystyrene, textiles, Stadur®, Reboard).
  • V-cut: folding grooves and bevels.
  • Creasing wheel: creasing folds in thin cardboard.

The VSR combines these operations with milling and camera registration in a single job. The LT, without a UTM module, does not cut these materials with a knife.

Adhesive vinyl

Full cut and kiss cut

The UTM cuts adhesive vinyl through (full cut) as well as kiss cut. The machine's maximum speed – up to 74,000 mm/min on the VSR – can be requested and will be reached as soon as the curves to be cut allow it.

For kiss cutting, the tangential knife is fitted with a pressure roller: the depth is set in VERSOCAM and the roller must also be adjusted at the start.

Printed Stadur frame, registered by camera, grooved with a cutter then cut with an oscillating knife on a VERSO VSR, assembled with tabs and slots
Displays and furniture

Stadur®, Reboard, cardboard: from display to furniture

This printed Stadur® frame was scanned by the camera, grooved with a cutter and then cut with the oscillating knife, in a single job. It is assembled without glue or fasteners, using only the tabs and slots produced by the cut.

Reboard is cut with the oscillating knife and grooved with the V-cut. Cardboard is cut with the oscillating knife; its folds are creased with the wheel (thin board) or V-cut (thick board, up to 30 mm). Thanks to printed-mark registration, the VSR produces printed furniture and displays.

Rubbers, foams, polystyrene

Gaskets, packaging inserts and flight cases

Rubbers: depending on their hardness and thickness, they are milled or cut with a knife. Thin rubbers are cut with or without oscillation. There is no real maximum thickness with a knife: it depends directly on the density and hardness of the rubber.

Foams: oscillating knife or end mill depending on the type of foam. Flight case manufacturers use VERSO machines for all their components: foams cut with the UTM or milled, wood and aluminium.

Polystyrene: oscillating knife.

Other materials

Corrugated plastic, banner, floor film, textiles…

  • Corrugated polypropylene (Akylux, Coroplast): up to 3 mm, simple tangential knife, up to 30 m/min; above that, oscillating knife with a heavy-duty blade.
  • Banner, mesh, magnetic sheet: simple tangential knife, up to the machine's maximum speed on large formats.
  • Floor-marking film: cut with the UTM using a short carbide blade. The material must not be cold: preheating to around 30 °C, for example with an infrared lamp, is ideal.
  • Fabrics, felt, technical textiles, leather, carpet: oscillating knife.
  • Paper: tangential or oscillating knife depending on the material.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ – Soft and semi-rigid materials

The tangential knife suits thin materials that are cut without shearing: vinyl, banner, magnetic sheet, expanded PVC under 5 mm, corrugated polypropylene up to 3 mm. The oscillating knife suits materials that need shearing: carpet, leather, cardboard, foams, polystyrene, textiles, Stadur, Reboard, thick felts.

Yes, with a tangential knife fitted with a pressure roller. The depth is set in VERSOCAM and the pressure roller must also be adjusted at the start.

Thin cardboard is creased with the creasing wheel. For thick cardboard, up to 30 mm, the folding grooves are made with the V-cut of the UTM module.

With the UTM and a short carbide blade. The material must not be cold: preheating to about 30 °C, for example with an infrared lamp, is ideal.

Not those cut with a knife: the LT has no UTM module. Only some foams and rubbers can be milled, depending on their type and hardness.
